Funke Felix-Adejumo under fire over Sermon on Rich Friendship
If you are the richest person among your friends, that relationship has expired: Move on.” – Funke Felix-Adejumo
Reverend Funke Felix-Adejumo of Agape Christian Ministries,Akure, Ondo state has been criticised over a recent comments she made during a programme, advising people who are rich to leave their poor friends.
Funke Adejumo had recently urged
people to quit friendships and relationships when they discover they are the richest in their circle for better connections.
The popular preacher shared this opinion during a church programme recently, grounding her sermon on the principles of wealth as she linked the effects of association and prosperity.
Felix-Adejumo alluded to Joseph in the Bible, saying, ”Joseph befriended wealthy prisoners, butlers, and bakers” while in prison.
Reactions have however trailed her comments as many described her sermon as ungodly.
On Friday, TVC’s popular programme, Your View was awash with calls as the matter was one of the topics discussed when callers from all across the country condemned such sermon.
Similarly, Nigerians have continued to react as captured from Instagram by ROVING REPORTERS :
latashalagos: I’m really trying hard to respect your authority in Christ ma’m but I think you missed this one by a mile! What is this get-rich-or-die-trying kind of mindset??? For goodness’ sake Madam what are you saying ?
daddyfreeze: Aunty Funke, when will you start preaching the true gospel and leave materialism?? Did Christ or Paul select his disciples using money as a yardstick? Please take this statement back.
shandy_suzzie: What is this woman saying? Why should you end a relationship because your friends are hot as financially buoyant as you? Hmmm. Even Jesus dined with 12 disciples who were in no way spiritually powerful like him. This woman talks too much and end up not making sense. Relationship isn’t all about money….the person without money could be with wisdom. We all have a part to play to make the world a better place.
btn_zachy: The richer people you’re going to join, you’re poor to them…if they avoid you like you avoided your friends, you can’t connect with them. So this is an ungodly preaching.
emehasixtusé: All these preachers think they know the best mtcheww we rise by lifting others.
sadeeequeen: No be this woman dey collect $1,000 as seed from parents if they want their daughters to marry as virgins?
See ehhhhh! Study your bible and khow God by yourself cos these preachers ha onye highway
sarahdairo: Jesus will never do that
goodle_cyrus: What’s wrong being the best in your group? What is wrong if your friends draw inspiration from you? What’s wrong if they become better because of your association with them?
Even Jesus instructed us to be Light where ever we find ourselves “Illuminating the dark world”.
I can only fault this kind of association of your friends or group have consistently and intentionally resisted growth, then you can pull out.
Let’s learn to be impactful instead looking for the next ‘best” person to sap.
ebloholo: Awon motivational speakers rubbish. Some gullible people will make it prayer point.
wealthy_wale: “My dear friends, do not believe all who claim to have the Spirit, but test them to find out if the spirit they have comes from God. For many false prophets have gone out everywhere. Those false prophets speak about matters of the world, and the world listens to them because they belong to the world.”
1 John 4:1, 5
chiha_on_tees: So you move to the next group and become the poorest in the group, they’ll move away from you…Even Pastors now take the pulpit to preach how loyalty honour, love and Respect that comes with long term friendship is bad..Oh please.
samueligblno: That statement look selfish kind of .. if your real pals are not making it and you are. Then give then opportunity you all will still need each other tommorow. When you how ignore and move away becos they don’t have you have created a challenge unknowingly to you. And some day too you might regret why you didn’t assist their Hussle. Any body can be better person when they have two things. Time and opportunity.
iamzubble : Beware of all these pastors that only preach wealth and prosperity. So poor people don’t deserve to have rich friends abi?
