June 12: Ekiti needs serious-minded politician to take over from Fayemi –Adetunberu
Ahead of Ekiti State governorship election, an advocate of good governance and security scholar, Dr Oludotun Adetunberu has called on politicians aspiring to contend in the 2022 election to be real, sincere and practical in their quest to be rule the state.
INEC will conduct Ekiti state governorship election in 2022 and politicians have been preparing ahead of the year.
Speaking with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on the importance of June 12 to the democratic existence of Nigeria,Adetunberu stressed the need for potential aspirants to the number one seat in the state to put in place structures and processes that would restore the lost glory of the state.
The security scholar emphasized that Ekiti State had resources that could make her self-sufficiency if tapped into and well managed as he charged leadership of all political parties in the state to screen their aspirants thoroughly in the interest of the generality of the people of the state both home and abroad.
According to the security rights activist, “the people are tired of rhetorics “rescue, liberation” missions as they are fed up with unrealistic pen and paper administration devoid of responsive governance”.
“Our people now prefer a Governor that will not cripple the Local Government administration or come with a promise of worldclass University and later to turn the existing one to a _worstclass_ University”, he said.
Asiwaju pleaded that Ekiti people especially the grassroots voters should be ready to do away with vote-buying strategies popularly known as “dibo ko sebe” which he stressed has been a major challenge towards achieving good governance.
Asiwaju identified over- ambitiousness, greed and leadership problem as the bane of security challenges in Nigeria and charged southwest Governors to stop complaining or unrealistic help that may not come rather they should take actions to secure their people in line with constitutional provision.
Adetunberu added that the South West Governors should make both the Police Community Relations Unit ,Intelligent and Security Unit of the Local Government be more effective for proper intelligence gathering and genuinely engagement of traditional rulers.
