Normalcy returns as Soldiers take over in Ikare Akoko
Report says the Nigerian Army has deployed its men to Ikare Akoko in Ondo state to restore peace and tranquillity following sporadic gunshot in the ancient town on Tuesday.
Our correspondent reports that there was sporadic shooting at the heart of the town over Olokoja of Okoja chieftaincy dispute few hours ago.
It was gathered that the pandemonium that started on Monday has degenerated to full use of dangerous weapons like guns.
Newsmen learnt that policemen and soldiers in the town were very few at the scene as at 8:15am on Tuesday to maintain law and order.
Calmness is now returning to the town which was deserted early hours of Tuesday as no commercial activity is taking place since Monday’s evening.
A community leader who had earlier spoken with our reporter on the condition of anonymity said all efforts to contact the State Commissioner of Police and the Commanding officer of the Nigeria Army, 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure had not been successful.
He called on Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to prevail on the security operatives to act appropriately to further prevent loss of lives in the commercial town.
