Omolafe: Ninth Assembly with Deaths of Seven Reps Members, Four  Senators in two years

ROVING REPORTERS brings to you the compilation of lawmakers that have died in the ninth Assembly

With the shocking death of A Federal lawmaker representing Akure South/Akure north federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Adedayo Omolafe, it has now made it the seventh death of members of the House since the 9th National Assembly was inaugurated on June 11, 2019.

Omolafe’s death occurred early hours of Monday after report said he slumped before he was rushed to the hospital where he later passed on.

In April,the lawmaker representing Lere Federal Constituency in Kaduna State at the House of Representatives, Mr Suleiman Aliyu, died.He was aged 53.

Aliyu was said to have died at the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna State.

An aide to the deceased, Tukur Abdul-Azeez said, “Yes, he passed away this morning. He had been suffering from typhoid and fever.”

Aliyu’s death occurred five days after the lawmaker representing Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in Plateau State, Haruna Maitala, died.

On December 2, 2019, the lawmaker who represented Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State in the House, Ja’afaru Iliyasu, died.

The lawmaker representing Garki/Babura Federal Constituency of Jigawa State in the House, Mr Muhammadu Gawo, died on December 31, 2019.

On February 8, 2021, the lawmaker representing Aba-North/South Federal Constituency, Abia State, in the House, Ossy Prestige, died.

On March 4, 2021, another member from Jigawa State, Yuguda Hassan Kila, who was Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise, died from an undisclosed illness at 70.

At the Senate, 9th Senate has lost four Senators.

Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu (Imo North), died on 18th of December 2019;

Senator Ignatius Datong Longjan (Plateau South), died on 10th February, 2020;

Senator Rose Okoji Oko (Cross River North), died on 23rd March 2020.

On June 15, 2020, the lawmaker representing Lagos East Senatorial district, Adebayo Osinowo, aka Pepper, had died at the age of 64.
