Ondo Govt adopts Sawah Eco-technology to boost Rice production

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has mandated the ministry of agriculture to key into Sawah Eco-technology towards boosting the production of rice and ensuring food security in the state.

To this end, the state government has entered into partnership with the
National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, NCAM to achieve massive rice production in Ondo state.

The Ondo state government officials led by the Senior Special Assistant to governor Akeredolu on Agric and Agric business, Akin Olotu and a team from NCAM inspected Sawah Rice farm in Akure, the state capital.

Leading the team on a tour , Olotu described the invention as the easiest way to boost rice production in Nigeria.

He stated that the Ondo state government would continue to pay serious attention to agriculture.

Akin Olotu said “The Sawah Rice technology has tremendous advantages over the conventional methods we have been using to plant rice.

“We are appealing to our people, that they must be gainfully engaged and when you are engaged, the reward will be there, you will want to do more and that is the business of government.

“That is why governor Akeredolu has made it mandatory for us to partner with NCAM in the implementation of this technology.”

Speaking, the coordinator, NCAM, Yinka Ademiluyi said the Sawah Eco-technology was a Japanese model for rice farming which increased yields optimally.

Ademiluyi said “The Sawah field will encourage the use of lowland. There are lots of lowlands in Africa, particularly in Nigeria that are not being used.

“Our system can encourage about two to three rice farming in a year.”
