Ondo: ODIEC conducts Councillorship By-Election In Ifedore, Akure North

The councillorship by election conducted by Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has taken place on Wednesday in two local governments, Ifedore Local Government Area and Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

In Ifedore Local Government Area, the election only took place in Igbara-Oke Ward 1, where only candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Action Democratic Congress (ADC) participated in the election.

At Igbara-Oke Ward 1 , the youths in the Ward, which has 26 units, had wanted to stage a protest in the morning due to lateness in arrival of voting materials.

But this was eventually averted by the timely arrival of the materials which officials of electoral commission brought.

The voting process began at 9:00 am and came to an end at 3:00pm.

All voters that showed up at the polling units conducted themselves in a peaceful manner thereby the election was rancour-free.

The election which held in just three wards, two in Akure North local government and one in Ifedore Local government had a low turnout in Igbaraoke, Ward 1

The two candidates that contested the election are Kehinde Lawal of APC and Ojo Busola of ADC.

It is expected that ODIEC would announce the results of the election later in the day as the results are yet to be announced as at the time of filing this report.
