Ondo: Okada levy Collectors Banned in Idanre over Security Threats

Following increasing cases of thuggery, extortion and physical abuses of innocent people in Idanre Local Government in Ondo state, Owa of Idanre, Oba Frederick Aroloye and other major stakeholders have banned the activities of Okada levy collectors in Idanre Local Government indefinitely.

This was one of the resolutions made by the Ugha in Council, political party representatives, security personnel and Okada commercial motor cycle riders after their meeting held in the palace of Owa of Idanre who facilitated the gathering as a result of rising trend of violent attacks on innocent people in the kingdom.

The meeting resolved that pending the assigning of new sets of Okada commercial motor cycle riders levy collectors, the leaders of Okada commercial motor cycle riders association are also to take over the levy collection responsibilities.

Earlier, Oba Aroloye said the gathering was not aimed at witch hunting anyone but to find lasting solution to the scourge.

A prominent member of APC and traditional chief in Idanre expressed worries that the suspects were claiming to be above the law because they were working for the ruling party.

He however dissociated the APC from their anti social actions and recommended appropriate punishments for the culprits while new set of levy collectors are put in place.

Barr. Bunmi Olonimoyo suggested to the applause of the gathering that new sets of Okada levy collectors should submit their data to the security outfits after having been well screened.

Reacting, Mr. Clement Akinnola, the DPO of Olofin Divisional Police Station called for regular monitoring of levy collectors which should not be more than two at a point while any other person apart from those officially assigned there should be sanctioned appropriately.

He called on those in position of authority to ensure that decent people are chosen to replace those being driven away because of their atrocities.

Among those present were Engr. Ade Akinnibosun, Vice Chairman, Idanre LG, Hon. Olumide Adeuti(APC Chairman, Idanre Local Govt.), Hon. Adekunle Akinlalu (PDP Chairman,Idanre LG),Princess Nike Akingboye Aroloye, the National Vice President of Iyalojas & Babalojas of Nigeria, Hon. Aderemi Oyewole alias Gilder, Hon. Segun Olaborede.
