Rivers monarch kidnappers demand N5bn Ransom
Over three weeks after the monarch of Ikuru town in the Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Aaron Ikuru, was kidnapped from his palace, his abductors are demanding N5bn ransom before he could be freed.
The spokesman for the palace, Maurice Ikuru, who disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday, said the kidnappers made the demand when they contacted his family.
“They have made contact. They said they want N5bn. But I have not heard anything from them again. But we are trusting God that very soon, he will be released,” Maurice said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, expressed the hope that the monarch would be released soon.
He said the release of a lecturer of the University of Port Harcourt, Dr Jones Ayouwo, on Monday, would pave the way for the monarch’s release, adding that the police would now beam their searchlight in that direction.
Omoni stated, “The release of the lecturer of the University of Port Harcourt has paved the way for the king to be released soon.
“We are nor resting. Our Anti-Kidnapping Unit and all the tactical commands are working round the clock. It is a security matter, so we will not disclose everything.
“We don’t want to use force of arms, but we are working hard to ensure that he comes out safe and unhurt.”
