Ward Congresses: More Trouble for Ondo Speaker, others as APC set for Showdown
“Those who embarrassed Ondo APC will pay dearly for it”
Reactions have continued to trail the recent actions of some aggrieved members of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Ifedore local government of Ondo State over the conduct of the ward Congresses held recently.
It will be recalled that the aggrieved APC members in Ondo state who are not satisfied with the outcome of the last ward Congresses in Ifedore local government approached the federal high court to challenge the conduct of the Congresses.
The aggrieved members prayed the federal high court to set aside and nullify actions and decisions taken by the leadership of the party in the purported ward Congresses held on Saturday, 31st July ,2021.
They threatened that if pushed away by the party, APC might not win any election in Ifedore local government in future elections.
Addressing newsmen last week Tuesday in Akure, a leader of the party and former lawmaker, Mr Idowu Adebusuyi said “The Ondo State caretaker committee failed to conduct any congress in Ifedore Local Government in Ondo State in accordance with the party’s constitution.”
He also mentioned the Ondo Assembly Speaker, Bamidele Oleyeloogun as one of the aggrieved members of the party.
The national caretaker and convention planning committee had inaugurated appeal committees for the state chapters, following disagreements among the party members on the various ward congresses of the party on July 31.
The aggrieved members are expected to submit their petitions and complaints to the committee.
National Secretary of the Caretaker/ Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee of the APC, Senator John Akpanudoede had while inaugurating the Appeal Panel, charged members to be fair to all parties and ensure justice was done.
It was however gathered that the leadership of the party in Ondo state was shocked that the aggrieved members did not follow due process before carrying out their actions which were against the constitution of the party.
Speaking with ROVING REPORTERS, a chieftain of the party who preferred to remain anonymous described as unfortunate the actions of the aggrieved members that were alleged to have been supported by the Speaker Ondo state House of assembly, Bamidele Oleyeloogun who is from Ifedore local government.
The source said Oleyeloogun’s action and his accomplices was anti-Party and the party was not ready to overlook it to forestall recurrence.
The source said “ Those who embarrassed the party by going to the press knew there will be consequences.
Unanimously, we agreed on consensus for us to remain steady and stronger since we are a having a leaders like the party chairman,Eng Adetimehin and Governor Akeredolu. They are our leaders who are trying to ensure that all interests are considered.
There is a party policy that every member should go back to his or her wards because we have 203 wards. So it will go against the party’s laid down rules for anyone to intervene in another man’s ward to reduce tension.
In Ifedore, we have three Zones ,Ijare ,Ilara and Igbara oke zones, politically established from time immemorial.
In Ijare Zone, Oluwajana is the leader there as a one time national vice chairman ,but Idowu Busuyi said he doesn’t know him as a leader that he is not relevant at all.
This is Idowu Busuyi who has been roaming about as a nomadic politician, defecting from AD to PDP to Labour Party to Zenith Labour and to APC. The two of them are from the same Ward but Idowu wants to take all.
I can categorically tell you that the leadership of the party set up 7-man committee to conduct the Congresses. The party set up another independent reconciliation committee to settle any grievance for the party to move on and the report of the committee was what the party accepted.
The Speaker, Hon Oleyeloogun too has not been fair to the party with his actions in the whole saga. Every one of them will pay dearly for embarrassing the party.
They should have gone to the Appeal panel but they didn’t go, they started embarrassing the party. There must be discipline. The party will definitely sanction them. ”
The APC is yet to issue official statement or comment on the matter. The Party publicity secretary, Alex Kalejaye was not also reachable to comment as of press time.
When contacted to react, Hon Idowu Adebusuyi told ROVING REPORTERS that he will wait till the party came up with its position on the matter.
Adebusuyi said “the suspension is till a rumour,it is not yet a fact. Till then.”
All efforts to get the reaction of the speaker ,Ondo Assembly,Oleyeloogun were unsuccessful as he did not reply messages sent to his mobile phone through SMS and Whatsapp.
